Background: For the Olympic Games, Munich naturally wants to show off its most attractive aspects, its spacious streets, its exquisite fountains, its idyllic avenues, its historic courtyards, its picturesque markets, its refreshing parks, its folkloric brass-bands, the gay atmosphere of the beer gardens, the lively rhythms of the students' evening haunts, and the bright pavement cafes.

Visitors will not have to scan the posters to find out what exhibitions, concerts, operas, ballets and theatre performances Munich is offering during the Olympic Comes.

Seventy electronic information stations will be there to help them. - "You would like to see a really first-clean ballet? How about the New York City Ballot on August 12th?"
"What else is there on the cultural events schedule which appeals to you? A festival performance at the opera?" - With the electronic light pen the hostess calls down the required information from the computer. - "You want to see the new production of a Eichard Strau??? opera? In the National theatre you can enjoy a performance of "Der Rosenkavalier" with an outstanding cast."
There is a vast choice of entertainments: Between August 1st and September 10th Munich is offering 129 opera performances, 660 theatre performances and 115 concerts.

Famous chamber musicians, soloists, conductors and orchestras will be taking part. Among these are the Berliner Philharmoniker conducted by Herbert von Karajan.

The information system created by the Siemens computer engineers also covers all restaurants in Munich, grouped in various categories: the traditional Munich of old, and the speciality restaurants featuring the best-known cuisines from all over the world.

The computer also provides information on night-time entertainment opportunities. It guides every Olympic visitor just where he would like to go.

The evening comes to a cloud in Schwabing, Munich's artist quarter.

Whatever the expectations of the visitors to the Olympic city, the electronic "know-all" will not disappoint them.
