    Background: Penshurst Place, Lord De L'Isle's country seat is one of England's most popular stately homes, but visitors will be still be able to see it and the gardens - for three shillings and sixpence - while the Viscount is in Australia as the new Governor-General.

    An Elizabethan home, Penshurst Place near Tunbridge Wells, Kent, will be then run by his eldest daughter - Elizabeth. She is 20.

    Lord and Lady De L'Isle four other children will be going to Australia. They are Catherine, 18; Philip, 15; Anne, 13; and Lucy, 8.

    Lady De L'Isle is 46. She and her husband - then Britain's Secretary of State of Air - visited Australia in 1955, for a fortnight's holiday. She's the daughter of the late Lord Gort, World War One Victoria Cross winner. Lord De L'Isle also won the Victoria Cross - at Anzio, the Italian beach-head, in 1944. He is 51. The De L'Isle motto is "Whither the fates call me".
