Background: Derby County and Manchester United, both struggling well down the league table this season, played to a four-all draw at Derby today. The conditions at the Derby Country ground, soft with a sprinkling of snow, slowed down the game. But both sides made up for the sluggish pitch in skill and enthusiasm.
Derby played in light shirts, dark shorts; Manchester played in red shirts, white shorts. Both teams have had a poor season so far. They went on to the field seventeenth and eighteenth in the first division table of twenty-two. Manchester United have not won any of their last eight matches. Today Derby dominated the first half and scored the first two goals. The half-time score was Derby 2, Manchester 0.
In the second half, Manchester United attacked the Derby goal from the kick-off and had chalked up three goals in ten minutes. Derby equalised and took the lead again. But Manchester United came back to score a fourth goal a quarter of an hour from the end.
