Background: On the final day of the events at the Asian Games in Delhi, December 3, Chinese athletes continued their domination of many events and of the medals table. In the women's volleyball final, China, playing in blue, outclassed their Japanese rivals, to take the gold. Japan won the men's event. In the women,s badminton final, two Chinese players Zhang Ailing, nearest camera, and Li Lingwei, fought for the gold, which eventually went to Zhang. The colourful Games closing ceremony was held the following day in the huge Nehru stadium. Prime Minister Indira Gandhi was there to watch the ceremonial dancers and the national teams as they marched in a colourful around the stadium. In a political protest, the Iranian team, marching separately, unfurled a banner as they passed the official box. The banner called for the release of 86 Iranian Moslem students held students held in Bangalore jail. They also carried small portraits of Iranian leader, Ayatollah Khomeini.
