Background: Formosa celebrated its national day, The Double Tenth (the tenth day of the tenth month) with a 100,000-strong rally. Because of reigning crisis conditions troops did not take part.
Addressing the rally from the balcony of his headquarters Nationalist leader Chiang Kai-shek urged his followers to redouble their efforts towards recovery of the Chinese mainland.
The Nationalist President said: "Never for a moment forget our anti-Communist resistance to the Russian cause."
