Background: In Tourah Prison, Jan 1, Mr James Zarb - sentenced in 1957 to ten years imprisonment for espionage - embraced his wife and the young son he had not seen before. Two-year-old Gerald Zarb was born after his father was sentence, and it was Mr and Mrs Zarb's first meeting for nearly three years. "This is my happiest moment for a long time", declared 40-year-old Mr Zarb.

His wife, who arrived from Britain Dec 31, will stay in Cairo for about a month and will be allowed to make several visits to the goal to see her husband.

Little Gerald thoroughly enjoyed his visit, playing with the prison governor's son and tossing his cowboy hat - given by his father - over the heads of officials and reporters. He also saw some of the 3,000 Christmas cards sent to Mr Zarb as a gesture by well-wishers.

Mrs Zarb brought numerous gifts, and messages from their three daughters. She received from her husband a pink rose and box of chocolates bought out of his meagre prison allowance.

Mr Zarb, a Maltese business man, has been the only Briton at the goal since the release of his fellow prisoner, Mr James Swinburn, last September. A prison official said he hoped Mr Zarb would be released soon.
