Background: Britain's Stirling Moss - after a speedy recovery from his recent race injuries - happily waved farewell to nurses at St. Thomas's Hospital, London July 23 and cycled home to his Mayfair flat. Just before leaving he said goodbye to a ten-year-old little girl patient from Baghdad who had been a constant companion during his 5-week stay in hospital
Moss joked with well-wishers about his bicycle and said he wished he had a tandem "it would be nice having someone else do the work." He was expecting his first race to be in Sweden August 7.

In a 140 mile-per-hour crash while practicing for the Belgian Grand Prix June 18, Moss broke both legs and suffered spinal injuries.
