Background: Liz Allen won the 1970 U.S. Masters Water Ski Championship which ended at Calloway Gardens, Georgia on Sunday (July 12).
For Liz it was her fifth consecutive title. In her final jump of the day, in the trick event, she cleared 102 feet.
Alan Kempton, the defending overall champion, won last year mainly on the strength of his outstanding somersault jumping.
Mike Syderhoud was bidding for his first overall title. But after what seemed to be the start of a perfect run he fell after the third buoy.
Ricky McCormick in his final run had to better 150 feet to catch up with Mike Syderhoud in the battle for the overall title. McCormick, who cleared 148 and 151 feet in his first two jumps, jumped 151 feet and then, in a further attempt cleared a magnificent 159 feet, bringing him victory.
