Background: In Hongkong today (Tuesday) an official inquiry began into the fire aboard the liner the former queen Elizabeth last month. The 83,000-ton ship, now called the Seawise University, alter sank.
The rusting hulk of the former transatlantic liner lies in a corner of Hongkong's famous harbour - near the spot where she was getting a refit when the fire broke out.
The inquiry is taking place in the Hongkong Legislative council chamber. It is headed by a judge who is assisted by two assessors flown out from London. The hearing is expected to take six weeks.
Already salvage experts have examined the ship. A Dutch expert is preparing a special report for the ship's owner, Hongkong shipping magnate C.Y. Tung. another expert said it was possible for the liner to be refloated.
However, the general consensus in Hongkong is that the once graceful liner is finished forever - except for the benefit of the sight-seeing boats.
