• Short Summary

The Greek Authorities are these days before a very complicated case; that of a Polish young woman who fled the "Communist Paradise" and sought "freedom" in Greece last week.

  • Description

Two shots of Shehrazad el-Asfahani showing her wondering around in Athens "free" from any communist "shadowing".

Shehrazad speaking to a Visnews reporter during an exclusive interviewed stated:

"The living conditions in Poland are awful; the medical treatment is given free to city population only, while the farmers were completely ignored by the state. Most children born in Poland at present are illegitimate and alcoholism is a major social problem. The black market in the big cities of Poland is in full swing of late, while life became awfully expensive. A kilo of meat cost 40 zloty, a pair of shoes 1500 zloty, an overcoat 3000 zloty, a simple dress 500 zloty, a kilo of bread 6 zloty, etc. (note: 1000 zloty - 40 dollars). Strong Russian Forces -- she unveiled -- are stationed in the Stettin and near the German-Czeck frontiers. The Polish people hate the Russians and many secret underground organizations work for the liberation of Poland."

Asked about her father and family in general, Asfahani said:

"Don't talk about my father; I havn't got any father. He is responsible for my tragedy, as he sent me to Poland; he lives in another world as he is a communist".

Background: The Greek Authorities are these days before a very complicated case; that of a Polish young woman who fled the "Communist Paradise" and sought "freedom" in Greece last week. She is the 26-year-old beautiful Shehrazad el-Asfahani, born in Beirut of Lebanese and Swedish parentage and who remained in Poland after having studied Medicine at Warsaw University. El-Asfahani who served as Port Doctor at Gdynia harbour, arrived in Salonika as stowaway aboard the Yugoslav freighter "Rock" seeking freedom. The Greek Authorities have granted her political asylum and allowed el-Asfahani to remain in Greece. Last weekend anyhow the whole case became very complicated, when a Polish Embassy communique denied her allegations and insisted that Shehrazad el-Asfahani not only is not a doctor, but a known prostitute of the Polish city of Tschestokuwa and that her name is Danuta Zabielska. She is also wanted for infanticide by the Polish Police -- according to the same communique of the Athens Polish Embassy. Naturally, el-Asfahani denied during a Press-Conference these accusations producing her medical diploma and asking Greek doctors to test her in theory and practice if they doubted her statement. She also insisted that she is of Lebanese descent and that her father is a Beirut doctor, residing at 52 Kura Bishra street, where she is born.
