Background: The King of the Ashanti tribe, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Opoku Ware, on Thursday ( 26 November ) inspected extensions being built at the hospital at Agogo, in Ghana. The work has been undertaken by a group of forty members of the Swiss Protestant Church.

The volunteers workers are roofing two blocks of sixteen rooms that will eventually be used as accommodation for nursing staff. It is the first stage of sixteen residential blocks and a modern kitchen planned for the hospital.

The Asantehene said he was greatly impressed with the speed at which the project was taking shape. He also spoke of the good example set by the Swiss volunteers of hard work, cooperation and international living. The project was started less than a month ago.

The extensions are costing nearly GBP106 - thousand Sterling, of which the Swiss Government is providing seventy five percent.

The Agogo hospital was built by Presbyterian missionaries to Ghana forty years ago. It is now staffed by four doctors, including two women.
