Background: President Leopold Sedar Senghor of Senegal visited industrial areas of Lagos on Monday (13 Nov) during his week-long visit to Nigeria. He saw a chocolate factory, a dairy farm demonstration centre, and the Illupeju Industrial Estate. Throughout the tour of industrial areas, President Senghor was accompanied by the Governor of Lagos State, Brigadier Mobolaji Johnson.
At the banquet marking the end of President Senghor's state visit, the Nigerian Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon, renewed his call for closer economic ties among African nations.
President Gowon said unless the black man was able to attain his full stature, Africa would be unable to achieve any partnership of equality and friendship with any powerful region of the world.
