    IN A CLOSE TUSSLE FOR SECOND PLACE WERE ROY SALVADORI OF BRITAIN IN A LOLA (2) AND SWEDEN'S JOAKIM BONNIER IN A PORSCHE (NO. 6). SALVADORI FINISHED IN 42 MINUTES, 58.6 SECONDS - BONNIER WAS ONLY 0.2 SECONDS BEHIND. THERE WERE FOLLOWED BY TWO BRITISH DRIVERS: INNES IRELAND (NO. 4), AND IAN BURGESS (NO. 12), BOTH DRIVING LOTUSES.

    BRITAIN'S GRAHAM HILL, DRIVING A LOTUS V8 CLIMAX (NO. 14), AND JOHN SURTEES, IN A LOLA (NO. 1), WERE BOTH FORCED OUT WITH ENGINE TROUBLE EARLY IN THE RACE. HILL LEADS IN THE WORLD DRIVES' CHAMPIONSHIP - BUT THIS RACE DID NOT COUNT.
