Background: Kashmir's new Chief Minister, Sheikh Abdullah, has told Pakistan to mind its own affairs and not so express hollow sentiments for the welfare of the Kashmiris of India.

Sheikh Abdullah told a 100,000 crowd at a public meeting in Srinagar that Pakistan should grant basis rights to people in the part of kashmir it occupied before talking on the Kashmiris's right to self determination.

The Sheikh was paying his first visit to the Kashmiri capital since he assumed power in Kashmir last month, so ending a 22-year-old dispute with the Indian Government over autonomy for the state.

He said he could not understand why the Pakistani Prime Minister, Mr. Bhutto, was angry at the accord he signed with the Indian Prime Minister, Mrs. Gandhi.

The accord with the Indian Government had given a place of honour to kashmir in India, he added.

Sheikh Abdullah's speech came after a general strike and street fighting in Srinagar last week in which 40 people were hurt.

The strike had been urged by Mr. Bhutto in protest at the autonomy settlement.
