    Background: Immediately after President Papadopoulos' address to the Greek Nation yesterday afternoon, the Ministerial Council met this morning to sign and issue the relative decree of the suppression of Martial Law imposed on the Greek People on April 21, 1967, and certify the general amnesty. Greek People was not surprised, for such decisions of the President were expected since days now. Newspapers came out today with huge headlines announcing the General Amnesty and the lifting of Martial Law, while all political prisoners scattered in various prisons and isolation points of the country will be freed within the next few days.
