Background: Bangkok is almost back to normal after the weekend of student demonstrations which coat hundreds of lives and brought down the Thai military government. The students who filled the streets earlier this week demanding a new constitution are now busy cleaning up the damage. Streets are still littered with burned out cars. Many government buildings are gutted. Students are collecting money for wounded demonstrators who fill most the city hospitals. Others are joining Buddhist monks in donating blood. Police are coming back onto the streets where boy scouts continue to direct the traffic. The army remains in the background while the new government, with a civilian Prime minister, attempts to restore calm after the west violent demonstrations in Thai history. The role of the armed forces remains uncertain. The services have dominated the political scene in Thailand for over 40 years. In the now government, the military are in the minority.
