    Background: A TEXTILE PLANT WHICH WILL MEAN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A NEW INDUSTRY IN GUINEA HAS BEEN OPENED BY PRESIDENT SEKOU TOURE. IN THE FIRST FILM OUT OF GUINEA FOR SOME TIME, THE PRESIDENT OPENED THE MILL BUILD BY A CONSORTIUM OF BRITISH COMPANIES AT SANOYA, NEAR CONAKRY. THE MILL, WHICH MILL PRODUCE SLIGHTLY MORE THAN 50 PER CENT OF GUINEA'S TEXTILE NEEDS, COST THREE-AND-A-HALF MILLION POUNDS STERLING.

    IN FULL OPERATION, THE MILL WILL EMPLOY 900 PEOPLE; CONSUME SOME 3,700 TONS OF RAW COTTON A HYEAR; AND HAVE AN OUTPUT OF 24-MILLION YARDS (ABOUT 22-MILLION METRES) OF CLOTH. THE MANAGING DIRECTOR OF THE LEADING BRITISH COMPANY IN THE CONSORTIUM SAID IT WAS NOT JUST A MILL; RATHER A COMPLETE TEXTILE INDUSTRY IN GUINEA.

    PRESIDENT SEKOU TOURE INSPECTED A GUARD OF HONOUR ON HIS ARRIVAL AT CONAKRY AIRPORT AND WITH HIS MINISTER FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND INDUSTRY, ISMAIL TOURE, WENT TO NEARBY SANOY TO OFFICIALLY OPEN THE MILL. THE PRESIDENT LATER MADE A TOUR OF INSPECTION AND RECEIVED A GIFT OF CLOTH FROM A YOUNG WOMAN WORKER.
