9.00 P.M. H.R.H. Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, President, The Federation B.E. & C.G. arrives and is received by the Chairman of the B.E. & C.G. Federation who presents the Chief of Staff JDF who in turn presents the Commanding Officer of the Unit providing the Guard of Honour, the 1st Bn of the Jamaica Regiment.
9.15 P.M. The teams from participating countries headed by Australia and thence in alphabetical order, with Jamaica in rear, with an interval of 15 paces between teams, enter the Arena through the Marathon Tunnel to the mucis of the Massed Bands and pass the Duke of Edinburgh.
9.45 P.M. His Royal Highness declares the Games open from the Saluting Dias.
9.50 P.M. The Ceremonial Flag is hoisted slowly on the main flag pole at the south of the Arena.
9.50 P.M. At the sound of the first gun, 8.00 gas-filled balloons are released from various parts of the Stadium.
9.52 P.M. A fanfare is sounded by the trumpeters of the Jamaica Constabulary Force whereupon a team of runners enters the Arena through the Marathon Tunnel bearing the Queen's Message to His Royal Highness. Having delivered the Message the team exits through the Macdonald Tunnel.
9.53 P.M. His Royal Highness, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, will read the Queen's Message to the assembled company, on the conclusion of which he and all those on the Saluting Dias will withdraw and take their seats in the Royal Box.
