Background: Demonstrators marched through the streets of Nicosia, Cyprus on Saturday (October 13) to the Syrian Embassy. They were protesting at the deaths of civilians in Israeli bombing raids and to support the Arab cause in the Middle East War.
The previous day the Cyprus Government had condemned had condemned the air raids, expressed sympathy to the Arab world and said the Government would oppose the use of British bases in Cyprus for any action against the Arab countries.
Saturday's demonstrators delivered a message of sympathy to the Syrian Embassy.
Other demonstrators marched past the Israeli Embassy carrying placards which read "Down with Imperialism", "Cyprus condemns the murders of civilians" and "Arab lands must be liberated".
There was a strong police contingent outside the Israeli Embassy and the protest ended without incident.
