    Background: LILLAFURED, HUNGARY

In Hungary, an unusually cold winter has produced an unexpected opportunity for the Hungarian national Alpine climbing team. The waterfall of the Szinva stream in Lillafured, one of the country's rain tourist attractions, has turned to ice, and the 20 metre cascade has become one large icicle. For the Hungarian climbers, who are also members of the Miskolo Alpine Club, the climb is good practice for a more serious assault on the Pirin mountains in Bulgaria next month.

The main ridge of the Pirin range is 40 metres high, double the height of the Szinva waterfall, and the climbers expect to accounter similar icy and treacherous conditions.
