    Background: The African peace mission left Jerusalem for Dakar on thursday (25 November) after discussing proposals for settling the Middle East conflict with Israeli leaders.

    The mission, comprising President Leopold Senghor of Senegal. Nigerian Head of State, Major-General Yakubu Gowon and foreign Ministers Mario Cardoso of the Zaire Republic and Eteki Mourouan of Cameroun, was been off at Jerusalem's Lydda Airport with full ceremonial honours by President Zalman Shazar, Premier Golda Meir and Foreign Minister Abba Eban.

    SYNOPSIS: The African peace mission left Jerusalem for Daker on Thursday after discussing proposals for settling the Middle East conflict with Israeli leaders. The peace mission was comprised of President Senghor of Senegal, Nigerian Head of State, Major-General Yakubu Gowon and the Foreign Ministers of the Zaire Republic and Cameroun. A four-President mission had been in the Middle East three weeks earlier with peace proposals from the Organisation of African Unity.

    The Heads of State and their representatives were accorded full ceremonial honours at jerusalem's Lydda Airport, and were farewelled by President Zalman Shazar, Premier Golda Meir and foreign Minister Abba Eban. They were scheduled to meet with the Organisation of African Unity officials in Dakar later in the week to discuss Israeli reaction to a questionnaire on attitudes to a peaceful settlement of the Middle East crisis.
