Background: King Hassan of Morocco, spiritual head of his country's Muslims, attended prayers in Rabat on Wednesday (November 8) to mark the feast of Id-Al-Fitr, the end of Ramadan -- the Muslim holy month of fasting. During the month, one of the most sacred religious festivals in the Muslim calendar, devotees fast from dawn to dusk.

The King, who has survived two serious assassination attempts in two years, was accosted by an enthusiastic supporter as he left the service. The man, who rushed out of the crowd waiting to see the King, was escorted away by royal guards.

Ramadan is sacred to the Muslims because it was during this month, according to their history, that the Koran was 'sent down' for the guidance of the people.

SYNOPSIS: King Hassan of Morocco, attended prayers in Rabat with his son on Wednesday to mark the feast of Id-Al-Fitr -- the end of Ramadan, during which Muslims fast for a month. Ramadan is sacred to the Muslims because this is the month during which, it's said, the Koran was 'sent down' for the guidance of the people.

As King Hassan left the Mosque after the service, there was an incident. An enthusiastic supporter broke away from the waiting crowds and accosted the King -- who's survived two serious assassination attempts in the last two years. But it appeared that the man, who was escorted away by royal guards, was harmless.
