Background: The Indian President, Dr. Rajindra Prasad, was 'at home' to about 2,000 guests, Jan 26, for the annual Republic day reception. The Duke of Edinburgh was guest of honour.
Guests crowded into the lush beautiful Presidential Palace gardens, where fountains cool the air and exotic Asian flowers bloom.
President Prasad walked from the Palace, escorted by soldiers. The path leading to the gardens was lined with troops.
Premier Nehru introduced the Duke of Edinburgh to many of the guests and later they had tea with the President.
