    TRANSCRIPT (SEQUENCE 4):

REPORTER: "Is it confirmed sir that the relatives of Galman -- the mother and the sister were taken for Air Force custody?"

PICCIO: "I think we should not comment on that any more. After all there is now the chief investigator who is handling the case, and the Commission, in fact, directed all officials to say nothing while they are already being informed."

REPORTER: "Thank you very much, sir."

Background: The five-man commission investigating the death of Philippines opposition leader Benigno Aquino, have visited Manila airport where the politician was shot on August 21. Aquino was returning to the Philippines to campaign in elections against President Ferdinand Marcos. The President set up the commission after calls for an independent probe into Aquino's murder. Police have identified the assassin -- who was shot dead by security guards -- as Rolando Galman. The authorities say he was a notorious hired killer with a criminal record. Galman's mother and sister have been taken into protective custody by the National Bureau of Investigation and Philippines Air Force chief, Major-General Vicente Piccio refused to comment on their detention. The commission of inquiry is headed by Supreme Court judge Enrique Fernando, and have opened their formal hearings today (September 7), but Aquino's family say they will boycott the inquiry and opposition leaders say it will be a whitewash.
