Background: Soccer -- a more common sport abroad -- is becoming increasingly popular in Canada.Immigrants have to a large extent being responsible for this as they are more interested in soccer - the familiar gave of their home-land - than the Canadian and American form of rugby football.

In British Columbia, Canada's most western Province, the British Columbia Football Association (Member of the Canadian Soccer Football Assoc.) has 7,000 junior members registered and 2,500 players registered in the senior division. To spearhead their new coaching school, the Commission decided to bring out from Great Britain a top football association coach -- Mr.Trevor Churchill of Wakefield, England. His experience as a coach spreads over a vast field of athletics as well as soccer -- he is a Staff Coach and Examiner of the Football Association of England at Lilleshall, that famous centre of soccer coaching, his knowledge and abilities have been utilized by the English International Schools XI, Oxford and Cambridge XI (Pegasus); as well as the Royal Navy team.He was a goaly for Leicester City and the City of Rotherham -- both international winning teams.

Two thousand attended the Coaching Seminar held over a three- week period (two weeks at Burnaby, and one week at Victoria). There were three periods of coaching per day, broken down into juvenile and senior sessions.Special evening sessions were held for local coaches who continue teaching the local players and up-coming juvenile players.

Soccer enthusiastics were fortunate to have the opportunity of training under Mr.Churchill.Those registered in this, the first Soccer Coaching Seminar of its kind on the continent, were delighted with the results.
