Background: The Pakistan Deputy High Commission in Calcutta has declared its allegiance to the newly formed "Sovereign Democratic Republic of Bangla Desh" rather than to the Pakistan Government of President Yahya Khan. Mr Hossain Ali, the Deputy High Commissioner, hoisted the Green and Gold Bangla Desh flag on top of the mission in Central Calcutta watched by his cheering staff. Mr Ali told a news conference the mission would be known in future as the "diplomatic mission of Bangla Desh". He said that 30 of the more than 80 staff members were from West Pakistan. They would not be kept on and arrangements would be made to send them back to West Pakistan.
