Background: In the first leg of the European Soccer Cup quarter-final, at Barcelona, Mar 8, the Barcelona team, the Spanish League champions, beat Czechoslovakia's Spartak 4-0.
Under the watchful eye of the referee Ademi, Spartak launched an early but abortive attack. Barcelona's Kubala failed to head a ball from hard-pressed Tejada in for the first goal.
Kubala's first attempt started a whole series of tricky situations around the Czech goal, putting goal-keeper Jundra to the test, after 11 minutes Tejada scored Barcelona's first goal by heading in a corner shot from Suarez Another shot, from Evaristo, supported by Villaverde and Kubala, brought Barcelona a 2-0 half-time lead.
The Spanish champions kept up their barrage during the second half. A brilliant combination by Villaverde, Suarez and Kubala - then a formidable shot by Verges - and Tejada takes up the ball to make the score 3-0.
After hitting the post, Kubala tried his luck again and topped the ball with Barcelona's fourth goal.
