    Background: More than 40 narcotics experts from Columbo Flan countries and the United Nations wound up a three-day conference in Bangkok, Thailand on Asian drug abuse.

    The conference, jointly arranged by the Columbo Flan Bureau and the Thai government, discussed measures to counter illegal drugs trafficking and the treatment and rehabilitation of drug addicts.

    It adopted eight recommendations, dealing mostly with the need for greater cooperation and exchanges for information among member countries.

    One called for an increase in the bi-lateral and multi-lateral exchange of intelligence and a mutual exchange of narcotics enforcement officers between countries in the Southeast Asian region.

    Among the delegates attending the conference are Singapore, Philippines, malaysia, Australia, Hong Kong, south Korea and Thailand. They will spend three days visiting United Nations-aided drug control projects in northern Thailand before returning home.

    Before returning home, the delegates to the conference will spend three days visiting United Nations-aided drug control projects in northern thailand. The World Roalth Organisation and the U.N. Programme for Drug Abuse Control are among the United Nations bodies involved.
