Background: Western Canada is the stronghold of the Social Credit Party, which had nineteen seats in the last Parliament. Mr.Solon Low, leader of the party, has carried out an intensive election campaign in this area for the pending elections.
At a meeting in the Steinbach College, 30 miles south east of Winnipeg, Manitoba close to the border with the U.S.A., Mr. Low addressed a meeting of four hundred supporters. The main concern of the electorate in this region and around Alberta, is the Government's agricultural policy.
At present the Social Credit party is facing charges of bribery against one of its former ministers. It is predicted that the party will suffer loses because of this unusual procedure, but the forecasters have not tried to guess which of the other parties will gain from this.
