Background: Eighty cars set off from Athens on Thursday (28 May) in the 3,500 kms (2,170 miles) Acropolis motor rally.
The drivers left the Athens Acropolis in warm, sunny weather, but rain was forecast for later in the four day event. The rally ends on Sunday at an airfield near Athens after a gruelling run through Central Greece.
Four factory teams -- Porsche, Ford, Alpine-Renault, and Lancia -- are the main competitors in the rally.
