Background: For the first time since 1846, a mail coach, drawn by four horses, left Post Office headquarters in the City of London and drove through the busy streets to the Ideal Home Exhibition at Olympia, Mar. 1.

The Post Office has a stand at the exhibition which tells the story of the Royal Mail over the 300 years that have elapsed since the passing of the "Post Office Charter" in 1660.

Postmaster General, Reginald Bevins, handed letters to the guard of the coach and sorted it on its journey - on arrival at Olympia it was met by the Assistant Postmaster General, Miss Mervyn Pike, who welcomed the occupants - all dressed in costumes of over 100 years ago.
