Background: Like some ancient Olympic torch run across the nations, NATO sant - by car - across France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Holland, West Germany, a torch - lit by Supreme Commander Lauris Norstad in Paris - to Denmark July 7 to celebrate Denmark's "Home Guard Week."
The torch, named the Torch of Liberty, and the Danish Home Guardsman who bore it from Paris, received a welcome at Storstroemen, a bridge on the Danish frontier, by an honour guard of women of a Home Guard detachment.

Then the torch began its journey by runners to Maribo - 100 kilometres distant - centre of the Home Guard celebrations.
