Background: Mr. Jean de Lipkowski, the French Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, arrived in Beirut on Thursday for talks with the Lebanese Foreign Minister Mr Khalil Abou Hamad.
After his first meeting with Mr. Hamad, Mr. Lipkowski told reporters that they had discussed Franco-Lebanese relations and the Middle-East situation. And he said that it was his opinion that the desire for peace in the Middle East expressed by the government of Egypt should be appropriately answered by Israel.
Mr. Lipkowski will stay in the Lebanon until Thursday next week (24 June). One Monday, (21 June), he is due to preside over a conference in Beirut of all French Ambassadors in the Middle East.
