Background: President Philibert Tsiranana of Malagasy returned home on Monday (May 25) after undergoing treatment in Paris for a circulatory ailment.
Crowds lined the road from Ivato Airport to the Hotel De Ville in the capital, Tananarive, where the official welcome was held.
The President had been away fro four months, but he told reporters he was now cured.
At the airport President Tsiranana thanked his doctors and the French nation for his return to health. On the plane with him and his wife were the four French doctors who treated him, and tow Malagasy doctors.
Among those on the tarmac to greet him, before a short ceremony of welcomes, was the Malagasy army leader, General Gabriel Ramantsoa.
At the civic welcome in Tananarive, City dignitaries and contingents from every Malagasy province were waiting to give the President the same king of colourful and enthusiastic welcome he received from the crowds on his route to the Hotel de Ville.
