Background: Dubai's police strength grow on Thursday (26 July), when 30 men graduated from the Jumeira Police Training School.

At the ceremony, the commander of Dubai's Police Force, Mr. Briks, said that the new men would help make the force one of the most efficient and best equipped in the Gulf States.

The Force - which no stands at 730 men - made news last week when as many policemen as possible were used in a 70-hour alert at Dubai Airport while the Japan Airlines Boeing 747 was held there by hi-jackers.

SYNOPSIS: The Commander of the force, Mr. Briks, took the ceremonial salute as the men marched past in their new uniforms. Almost immediately, they'll be sent out to begin regular police work...work which can vary from directing traffic to high-security operations.
