Background: Japan has qualified to play South Vietnam in the second round of the Eastern Zone Davis Cup Tennis Tournament, after taking an unbeatable 3-0 lead over South Korea on the second day of play.

On Saturday (6th April) - the first day - Japan easily won the two opening singles matches.

The three-day tournament was staged in Tokyo, an advantage for Japan's two top players two took the lead.

The top Japanese player. Toshiro Sakai, defeated South Korea's fourth-seeded Kim Min-11 6-3, 6-0, 6-1.l Japan's number two player, Kelichi Hirai, then outplayed South Korea's top-seeded Kim Sung-bae 6-4, 6-4, 6-4.

On the second day (7th April) in doubles play. Keichi Hirai and Japan's number three player Kiyoshi ranabe beat the South Korean pair Kim Sung-bae and Kim Moon-11, 6-4, 6-1, 6-1.

Japan will meet South Vietnam in the second round of the Eastern Zone Davis Cup in Tokyo from April 19th to 21st.
