Background: Rising to the challenge presented by a japanese motor company for new ideas utilising motorcycle and car engines, inventors and engineers produced a remarkable range of devices for an exhibition at Hammatsu City, 300 kilometres (186 miles) west of Tokyo, on Saturday (3 September).
The 62 machines ranged from motorised toys for children and novel leisure craft for adults to self-propelled land and sea craft with serious practical possibilities.
Meet of the exhibits came from the 10,000 engineers who work for the firm, and company funds paid for their materials. their work is being judged by panel of motor experts, who are looking ut for machines that could have commercial possibilities.
But basically, the display provided fun for the large crowd of visitors who witnessed such original devices as a toy monster which walked along and sucked up garbage from the floor, a motorised 'magic stick' with room for one passenger, a floating motorcycle...and an amphibious 36 horse power car equally at home on land and water with up to three passengers.
