Background: The port under construction of Sidi Ifni, capital of the Spanish province, presents some characteristics which possibly make it unique in the world.
To solve the problem of loading and unloading and the lack of natural shelter, a pier-dock of 1.5222 m. is established where the ships will berth and from where the merchandise will be transported by a rope-railway.
In spite of the adverse conditions prevailing in this coast, the works are well advanced. All material have to be transported from the Canary Islands and the blocks constructed in Las Palmas are towed to the anchoring ground. The rope railway will have an intermediate support on the sea at a distance of 459 meters from the dock, and another on land on the rocks.
The dock-pier will have a surface of 1000 sq. m. and a height over the average tide level of 13 m. on the stern and 20 m on the bow.
Theoretically the rope-railway will be able to transport 10 metric tons both ways and in case of need the two platforms will be connected to obtain a capacity twice that specified.
