Attended by the British Permanent delegate to NATO, Sir Francis Roberts, American delegate Mr. Burgess and NATO Chief of Staff, General Schuyler, this meeting was the first direct contact between SEATO and NATO.
Sarasin and Spaak discussed questions of common interest to the two organizations. SEATO - the South East Treaty Organization whose signatories are France, the UK, the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, Thailand and the Philippines - is the outcome of the Manila Pact, designed to safeguard the collective defence of South East Asia and similar in its working pattern to NATO, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
Secretary-General Sarasin is to stay in Paris until Jan 21.
