Background: Wearing full uniform--including a rarely worn military cap--Prince Rainier of Monaco laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior in Rome Nov 5. Prince Rainier and Princess Grace arrived in the Italian capital Nov 4 for a three-day State visit.
Following the wreath laying ceremony, the Prince and Princess attended a civic reception at the Campidoglio (Mayor's residence.) At the end of a welcoming speech, Mayor Ubaldo Cioccetti presented Prince Rainier with a silver reproduction of Romulus and Remulus and the mother wolf--emblem of Rome, Princess Grace received a book of illustrations of ancient Rome.
In return Prince Rainier presented the Mayor with a Monagesque medal and a cheque to be used for the benefit of Rome's needy.
