Background: At the Palais des Sports in Tunis on Saturday (23 February), France failed, in a drawn series, to defeat the Tunisian National Amateur Boxing Team. There was no result in two of the bouts. Of the four other fights each country won two.
The first bout was won when France's Joseph Simoes was defeated by Tunisian Mouldi Leamiri. The next fight, a Fly-Weight contest, was declared a draw by the judges. Then France drew level, when Tunisian-born Aldo Coeentino defeated the home champion, Abdelaziz Hammi, in the Santam-Weight Class. Feather-weight, Gabriel Lamperti, put France two-one in the lead with a good win over Mohamed Hammami, but the Tunisian Light-??? Jelassi, drew the series, when he proved a better fighter ??? francs's Philippe Dumont.
