    Background: MOSCOW, USSR/VIENNA, AUSTRIA/WARSAW, POLAND

The Soviet Union has announced extra credit subsidies for Poland to cover the trade imbalance between the two countries. The agreement was signed in Moscow by the Polish Trade Minister, Mr. Tadeusz Westorowicz, and his Soviet counterpart, Mr. Nikolai Patolichev. Poland owes the Soviet Union 2,000 million dollars worth of trade credit for the first nine months of the financial year. In Vienna, a large number of Poles queued at the South African Embassy of visas to emigrate; some were successful. Meanwhile in Poland, the trial of the former head of Polish Television, Mr. Maciej Szcezepanski, continued while hundreds of people waited in the rain to attend a church service conducted by Archbishop Glemp.
