Background: The Ghanaian Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr Torto, recently opened a Volta Region agriculture show at Ho.
Mr Torto said that in order to utilise the natural resources in the Volta Region, the Ministry of Agriculture was proposing to promote rice production in the Denu, Adidome, Avatime and Buem areas.
He said that in other areas, sugar-cane could be grown on a large scale and therefore, sugar factories would be set up to provide an incentive for the expansion of the crop.
Large-scale livestock farming and maize production would be increased as well.
Mr Torto later toured the various stands. He was accompanied by the Chairman of the Regional Committee of Administration, Lieutenant-Colonel Yeboah, and other members of the committee.
