Background: During his recent visit to Guinea, President Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo, called for joint action between the two countries for peace in Africa.

"We must work together non-stop to install a deep and durable peace," he said.

President Eyadema was given an enthusiastic welcome to Guinea by President Sekou Toure.

After arriving in Conakry, the capital, on Monday (9 March) the visiting president was taken to a rally of 100,000 Guineans at the 28 September stadium at Kindia, 60 miles (100 kms) away.

The following day he was taken over the new bauxite refinery at the industrial city of Kamsar.

The two leaders held formal talks on the third day of the visit.

President Eyadema was accompanied by his Foreign Affairs, Interior and Information Ministers.

In their speeches, both leaders spoke highly of each other, emphasising the importance of relations between the two countries.

SYNOPSIS: The people of the African Republic of Guinea gave visiting President Gnassingbe Eyadema of Togo an enthusiastic welcome during his visit there recently. President Eyadema,who held talks with Guinea's president Sekou Toure, said he had met a free, happy people.

President Eyadema, who spoke highly of President Toure in his speeches, called on the two countries to work together for a deep and durable peace in Africa. For the three day visit to Guinea, the visiting President had brought with him three of his top ministers.

On the second day of his visit, President Eyadema was taken to the industrial city of Kamsar, to look over the new bauxite refinery being built there. President Sekou honoured the visiting head of state by awarding him the highest Guinean distinction, the Grand Cross of the Order of Fidelity to the People.
