Background: INTRODUCTION: The 'World Games One' are being held in Santa clara Valley, california, between july the 24th and August the second. The event is the largest international sports meeting ever held in Northern California. Fourteen hundred world-class male and female athletes from 58 countries are competing in 16 different sports. After the International Olympic Committee decided in 1974 that no new sports would be added to the Olympics, the World Games were formulated to expand the scope of international sports.

SYNOPSIS: Spain's Fernando Rosuero and Naito of Japan met int eh under-60 kilogram Karate division finals. it was an exciting match with both competitors displaying all their skills.

Points are awarded for aggression and skill.

With the major attraction of the Asian team, along with the world championship Spanish squad, the Karate drew large crowds, especially to the finals.

Karate is replete with old-world courtesies. They must respect the judgement of the barefoot officials.

Japan's Naito won his Division's gold medal; his opponent Fernando Rosuero was placed second with Britain's Tierney third.

Another popular event was the swimming. Equipped with single or double fins plus snorkel breathing apparatus the fin swimmers propel themselves around twice the speed of unaided swimmers. Some fin swimmers look like dolphins as they break through the water, others use and extra long single flipper and use the traditional crawl stroke. Broglia of italy leads at the 50 metre.

The fascinated spectators watch as the fin swimmers flash up and down the Santa Clara pool which is the largest solar heated swimming pool in the world. As they approach the finish in double quick time the Italian holds off all challenges to win the event. His time over the 100 metres was 43-point-34 seconds.

No flags or anthems are allowed within the non-political format of the Games.
