Background: The Fourth Pan-American Chess Tournament, due to end on the 10th of August, is now under way in Havana, Cuba.
During the first round, when these scenes of play were filmed, the choice of partners ensured that Cuban players did not play each other.
There are fifteen countries taking part in this year's tournament, the greatest number in the history of the event.
The fifteen are Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Chile, Ecuador, Islas Virgenes, Mexico, Panama, Peru, Puerto Rico, Republica Dominicana, Uruguay, and Venezuela.
In 1966, Havana was the venue for the 17th World Chess olympiad, won by the Soviet Union.
