Background: Six archbishops and bishops, together with 20 priests, assisted the Apostolic Nuncio in the ordination ceremony of Bishop Nday of Kongolo, Congo-Kinshasa, last month. President Joseph Mobutu was represented at the ceremony by his Urban and Land Minister Joseph Kahamba. Governor Henri Takizala led a large contingent of authorities from Kivu province.
SYNOPSIS: The Roman Catholic community of Kongolo, in Congo-Kinshasa's Kivu Province, has a new spiritual leader. Bishop Nday was ordained to his new office last month. President Joseph Mobutu was represented at the ceremony by his Urban and Land Minister Joseph Kahamba. Also there was a high-ranking delegation of provincial officials, led by Governor Henri Takizala.
The Apostolic Nuncio was assisted in the ceremony of ordination by six archbishops and bishops, and by twenty priests. There was a moving moment during the ceremony when the sacrifice of the twenty martyrs of Kongolo was recalled. The martyrs were known personally to the new Bishop.
Bishop Nday gave his first benediction to the crowds after the ceremony, after assuming his responsibility as representative of Pope Paul in the church of Kongolo.
