Background: Police used tear gas to disperse demonstrators outside the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi yesterday, 3rd February, 1971. They were protesting against the destruction of an Indian Airlines aircraft at Lahore after it had been hi-jacked there.
The Indian Airlines aircraft, a Fokker Friendship, was blown up by its hi-jackers, described as Kashmiri freedom fighters. The Indian Minister of aviation described the destruction of the aircraft as an outrage. A Government spokesman said that the Pakistan Government had given an assurance that it was committed to return the aircraft.
