Background: BRITAIN'S NATIONAL NEWSPAPERS TODAY (MONDAY) WERE ALMOST COMPLETELY DEVOTED TO TRIBUTES TO SIR WINSTON CHURCHILL, WHO DIED AT HIS HOME AT HYDE PARK GATE YESTERDAY.

PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE GREAT STATESMAN AND HEAVY BLACK TYPE DOMINATED THE FRONT PAGES AS THE PRESS SOUGHT TO EXPRESS THE NATION'S SORROW.

AT THE ENTRANCE TO HYDE PARK GATE A SMALL CROWD STOOD DURING THE DAY, AND PEOPLE PASSING REMOVED THEIR HATS IN SILENT TRIBUTE.....

OUTSIDE THE ENTRANCE TO THE HOUSE OF COMMONS TODAY, THERE WERE QUEUES OF PEOPLE WAITING TO SEE PARTY LEADERS AND MEMBERS OF PARLIAMENT ARRIVE FOR THE SPECIAL SITTING OF BOTH THE HOUSE OF COMMONS AND THE HOUSE OF LORDS. BOTH HOUSES PAID TRIBUTE TO SIR WINSTON, AND UNANIMOUS APPROVAL WAS GIVEN TO A MESSAGE FROM QUEEN ELIZABETH REQUESTING A STATE FUNERAL.

BEFORE THE FUNERAL, SIR WINSTON WILL LIE IN STATE FOR THREE DAYS IN WESTMINSTER HALL, WITHIN THE SHADOW OF THE HOUSE OF COMMONS. DURING THIS PERIOD, PARLIAMENT WILL STAND ADJOURNED. AFTER A FUNERAL SERVICE IN ST. PAUL'S CATHEDRAL, SIR WINSTON WILL BE BURIED IN AN ENGLISH COUNTRY CHURCHYARD NEAR BLENHEIM PALACE IN OXFORDSHIRE.
