Background: As the deadline approached for the renewal or end of the Middle East ceasefire, the Israeli Cabinet met in Jerusalem today (Sunday) to discuss the Middle East Progress Report of U.N. Secretary-General U Thant.
An official announcement reiterated Israel's adherence to the June 1967 Resolution calling for an unconditional ceasefire, but there was reported to be mounting displeasure among the Israeli leadership at U Thant's call for an Israeli withdrawal to prewar boundaries in advance of negotiations between the two sides.
Later Foreign Minster Abba said Israel would continue to respect the ceasefire, and would not be the first to break it.
